The current thinking for the playoff format is to treat each series as a single game, with the series winner as the game winner and the total points scored in the series as the game points. The first round would be entered as two weeks with each week containing four series, because the system doesn't (currently) handle more than five games in a single week.

Each series after round one will be shown as a separate week, containing only one game. This is because a series in rounds two, three or four can begin before all series in the previous round have been completed, making selections difficult if they were grouped into rounds as weeks. If they were grouped, the players would have to enter their selections without knowing all of the participants and match-ups in order to get them in before the series started.

We're still trying to figure out how to report the selections and results for the playoffs, and haven't yet started coding the actual playoff processing.

If you have any comments or suggestions, now is the time to share them. Thanks.

Just an update...

For the playoffs, we've settled on treating each series as a separate selection. What that means is that for each series, you select which team you think will win the series, and how many goals scored in total by both teams. The goal difference for each series will be added together to come up with the overall difference that would be used as the playoff tie-breaker.

The first place prize would be awarded to the player with the greatest number of correctly selected winning teams. If there are two or more players that correctly selected the same number of winning teams, then the player with the lowest overall score difference would be awarded the first place prize, and the player with the second lowest overall score difference would be awarded the second place prize.

This way it's generally consistent with the way we've handled it in the CFL and NFL pools.
